We're launching volume I of Community Chronicles, a chance to feature some of the best VOLTRA I setups from our community. Today we hear from Brody Langley and his fortress, @lang.athletics.
Brody’s personal gym is equipped with dual VOLTRA I's, complete with Bar Mounts that are easily moved higher or lower on demand, unlocking pull downs or cable rows at up to 400 lbs.
What we particularly love about Brody’s gym is the aesthetic. Fully black and white with careful attention to lighting, the VOLTRA I's really fit in with the black rack. Smells like the future to us!
Brody's personal gym steps into a setup that takes VOLTRA I to the edge, blending hardcore strength and agility training with an arsenal of top gear.
We sat down and did a full Q&A with Brody to learn more about why they picked VOLTRA I for their setup and how they're finding the gear.
Q&A
1. How did you first discover VOLTRA I and Beyond Power? What inspired you to include it in your home gym setup?
Brody: I first discovered Beyond Power and the VOLTRA I while searching online for space-saving alternatives to functional trainers. My home gym is around 350 square feet, so I had to be considerate about bringing in larger pieces of equipment.
When I stumbled upon the VOLTRA I it was clear to me that it would not only save on space, but would also unlock new resistance training capabilities that aren’t possible with traditional cable machines. That's when I placed my order.
2. What made you pull the trigger for the purchase, and what were your expectations before receiving VOLTRA I?
Brody: What made me pull the trigger on my order was the realization that the VOLTRA I was not only more compact than the alternatives I was searching for, but also more capable.
I’ve worked in the high tech industry for over a decade, and know that version one products can range in performance - so my expectations, while hopeful, were admittedly uncertain.
After 6 months of use, any skepticism I may have had, was dispelled - as the VOLTRA I far surpassed my optimistic expectations. Both of my VOLTRA I units have performed exactly as promised, without any signs of wear from frequent use.
3. Do you have any prior experience with digital resistance?
Brody: Prior to using the VOLTRA I, I had tried other platform and wall-mounted digital/electric resistance trainers with limited use. Due to the form factor of these units, I found they lacked the adaptability and functionality I required to integrate into my training. They also required paid subscriptions for use and relied heavily on pre-programmed instructor-led content, which weren't of interest to me as a consumer and experienced athlete.
The VOLTRA I on the other hand, solved for these shortcomings by offering a more nimble and adaptive form factor, no subscription fees, and a high degree of customization.
4. You’ve been very creative with VOLTRA I, especially pairing it with different accessories. Could you share some of your favorite combinations?
Brody: I’ve found a broad range of creative applications for my VOLTRA I units, given their compatibility with my cable attachments and the ability to anchor them to various uprights and bars around my gym. While my favorite use for the VOLTRA I is as a functional trainer, I have enjoyed pairing the units with my rack-mounted trolley system to emulate weight stack machines you would typically only find in large commercial gyms.
5. Do you have any advice or suggestions for the Beyond Power team? Feel free to give a quick shoutout to the people behind VOLTRA I.
Brody: What I’ve appreciated most about Beyond Power is their exceptional customer service and willingness to consider and integrate customer feedback into their products. In my 6 months of using the VOLTRA I, there have been new resistance modes, small user experience tweaks, and accessory releases that integrated feedback from the community to improve upon an already excellent product.
